SUMMARY:CPOW Soils Course - August 2023 - Western Slope
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Soil and Site Evaluation Course \nThis course is designed to meet the requirements of the Section 43.5.I.2.b of Regulation #43 for a Competent Technician.  Passing the course examination will demonstrate competency in the visual and tactile evaluation of soil.  Certificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nBelow is the description of the course as it has been presented in the past. Changes to the schedule for our upcoming 2023 courses are likely. \nDay one of the course is primarily classroom instruction on the items noted below\, along with a “hands-on” exercise where participants hand texture pre-determined samples of all soil types.  Day 2 includes a field component\, where participants will learn to apply the site evaluation principles learned from day one. \nDay one includes: \n\nBasic Principles of On-Site Wastewater Treatment (OWTS) siting and design\nRegulation specific requirements for conducting preliminary and field site investigations with “real world” examples\nBasic geology and soil formation processes\nPercolation test methods\nUnited States Department of Agriculture (USDA) soils classification system\nRelationship between soil types and movement & treatment of effluent\nBasics of how to identify limiting layers and high rock content (Type R soils)\nHands-on soil texturing\n\nDay two includes: \n\nPreview of field site\nSite visit and test pit evaluation\nRe-cap of site visit\nReview and Q&A\nExam\n\nUpon successful completion of the course\, you will gain competency in the following activities: \n\nPrinciples of OWTS siting and design\nIdentification of:\n\nsoil types by hand texturing and observation\nSoil structure\nLimiting layers\n\n\nDetermining the most promising location for the soil treatment area infiltrative surface\n\nCertificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nCourse Instructors: \nWarren Brown\, P.E.\nPublic Health Engineer\nTri County Health Department \nRoy Laws\, P.E.\nJefferson County Public Health\nEnvironmental Health Services Division \n  \nCost: \n2-day Attendance (Full Certification): $325 for CPOW members and $425 for Non-Members. \n1-Day Attendance (CEU Hours): $250 for CPOW Members & $350 for Non-Members. \n*Please note that each registration includes ONE (1) Certificate of Competency OR NAWT Renewal\, and any additional requested renewals are $75/each. \n  \nTHE COURSE IS AT CAPACITY AND REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED. DESCRIPTION:The Installer class is a nationally recognized OWTS class developed to provide training\, testing and certification for individuals who install OWTS systems. The topics covered in this 1-day course are planning and site evaluation; proper installation of tanks and advanced treatment units; using good installation principles for installing below grade\, at-grade and above grade soil treatment areas; proper installation of pump and pump stations; proper installation of different media and media filters. SUMMARY:NAWT Inspector Training - Gunnison
DESCRIPTION:The Inspector class is a nationally recognized Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) class developed to provide training\, testing and certification for individuals conducting OWTS inspections for property transfers\, system functionality and county or homeowner association requirements. Day one covers the basics of OWTS their purpose and functionality. Day two covers the NAWT protocol on how to complete an inspection for all systems from the basic gravity fed systems through systems with advanced treatment. The NAWT level of inspection is the Operations Level. Identifying all parts and components and assessing their condition and identify deficiencies.
