SUMMARY:Soils Class 2019\, Arapahoe County
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Soil and Site Evaluation Course \n  \nThis course is designed to meet the requirements of the Section 43.5.I.2.b of Regulation #43 for a Competent Technician.  Passing the course examination will demonstrate competency in the visual and tactile evaluation of soil.  Certificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nDay one of the course is primarily classroom instruction on the items noted below\, along with a “hands-on” exercise where participants hand texture pre-determined samples of all soil types.  Day 2 includes a field component\, where participants will learn to apply the site evaluation principles learned from day one. \nDay one includes: \n\nBasic Principles of On-Site Wastewater Treatment (OWTS) siting and design\nRegulation specific requirements for conducting preliminary and field site investigations with “real world” examples\nBasic geology and soil formation processes\nPercolation test methods\nUnited States Department of Agriculture (USDA) soils classification system\nRelationship between soil types and movement & treatment of effluent\nBasics of how to identify limiting layers and high rock content (Type R soils)\nHands-on soil texturing\n\nDay two includes: \n\nPreview of field site\nSite visit and test pit evaluation\nRe-cap of site visit\nReview and Q&A\nExam\n\nUpon successful completion of the course\, you will gain competency in the following activities: \n\nPrinciples of OWTS siting and design\nIdentification of:\n\nsoil types by hand texturing and observation\nSoil structure\nLimiting layers\n\n\nDetermining the most promising location for the soil treatment area infiltrative surface\n\nCertificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nThe instructors for this course will be:\nWarren Brown\, P.E.\nPublic Health Engineer\nTri County Health Department \nRoy Laws\, P.E.\nJefferson County Public Health\nEnvironmental Health Services Division \nClass will be held Thursday\, September 12 from 8am-5pm\, and Friday September 13 from 8am-5pm\nBagels\, doughnuts\, coffee & tea in the morning\, and lunch will be provided. \nClick HERE to register for this class or email Lisa Nicoll at cpow@nullcpow.net with your Name\, Company Name\, Mailing Address and Telephone Number. \nYou must have a current 2019 CPOW membership to receive member pricing.\n

SUMMARY:Member Appreciation Day - Arapahoe County
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Professionals in Onsite Wastewater is hosting a member appreciation day free to all 2018 CPOW members. The class will include classroom instruction from John Thomas\, Executive Director of the Washington On-site Sewage Association (WOSSA). The morning session will be split into two groups. One group will start the day with an inspection of an onsite wastewater treatment system and the other group will start in the classroom. The groups will then switch so that everyone is able to walk through a National Association of  Wastewater Technician (NAWT) inspection. \nMorning session (done twice to a split group) \nOverview – 10 minutes \n1926 Subpart P – Excavations – 15 minutes \n1926.650 – Scope\, application\, and definitions applicable to this subpart. – 15 minutes \n1926.651 – Specific Excavation Requirements. – 20 minutes \n1926.652 – Requirements for protective systems. – 30 minutes \n2 hours total \nAfternoon session \n1926 Subpart P App A – Soil Classification – 30 minutes \n1926 Subpart P App B – Sloping and Benching – 30 minutes \n1926 Subpart P App C – Timber Shoring for Trenches – 30 minutes \n1926 Subpart P App D – Aluminum Hydraulic Shoring for Trenches -30 minutes \n1926 Subpart P App E – Alternatives to Timber Shoring – 15 minutes \n1926 Subpart P App F – Selection of Protective Systems – 15 minutes \nCase Studies and exercises – 1.0 hour \nDiscussion and questions – 30 minutes \nTotal Presentation time: 6 hours \n  \nPlease register by clicking here or emailing cpow@nullcpow.net with your name\, phone number\, and address.
