SUMMARY:CPOW Soils Class 2019 - Alamosa
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Soil and Site Evaluation Course \n  \nThis course is designed to meet the requirements of the Section 43.5.I.2.b of Regulation #43 for a Competent Technician.  Passing the course examination will demonstrate competency in the visual and tactile evaluation of soil.  Certificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nDay one of the course is primarily classroom instruction on the items noted below\, along with a “hands-on” exercise where participants hand texture pre-determined samples of all soil types.  Day 2 includes a field component\, where participants will learn to apply the site evaluation principles learned from day one. \nDay one includes: \n\nBasic Principles of On-Site Wastewater Treatment (OWTS) siting and design\nRegulation specific requirements for conducting preliminary and field site investigations with “real world” examples\nBasic geology and soil formation processes\nPercolation test methods\nUnited States Department of Agriculture (USDA) soils classification system\nRelationship between soil types and movement & treatment of effluent\nBasics of how to identify limiting layers and high rock content (Type R soils)\nHands-on soil texturing\n\nDay two includes: \n\nPreview of field site\nSite visit and test pit evaluation\nRe-cap of site visit\nReview and Q&A\nExam\n\nUpon successful completion of the course\, you will gain competency in the following activities: \n\nPrinciples of OWTS siting and design\nIdentification of:\n\nsoil types by hand texturing and observation\nSoil structure\nLimiting layers\n\n\nDetermining the most promising location for the soil treatment area infiltrative surface\n\nCertificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nThe instructors for this course will be:\nWarren Brown\, P.E.\nPublic Health Engineer\nTri County Health Department \nRoy Laws\, P.E.\nJefferson County Public Health\nEnvironmental Health Services Division \nClass will be held Thursday\, May 23 from 8am-5pm\, and Friday May 25 from 8am-5pm\nBagels\, doughnuts\, coffee & tea in the morning\, and lunch will be provided. \nTHIS COURSE IS AT CAPACITY AND REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. SUMMARY:Soils Class - Alamosa\, CO
DESCRIPTION:Colorado Soil and Site Evaluation Course \nThis course is designed to meet the requirements of the Section 43.5.J.2.c of the newly adopted Regulation #43 for a Competent Technician. \nWe will use class room lecture and field work to learn observation skills for profile holes and using visual and tactile evaluations to identify the soil types and characteristics needed to site and design onsite wastewater treatment systems.  These methods are in accordance with the USDA methodology that has been used across the county. \n\nIdentify soil types by hand texturing and observation\nIdentify presence or absence of soil structure\nIdentify grade of soil structure\nRecognize evidence of highest season water surface\nIdentify layers and interfaces that will interfere with effluent movement\nDetermine the most promising depth for infiltrative surface of OWTS and for percolation tests\nUnderstand basic principles of OWTS siting and design\n\nPassing the course examination will demonstrate competency in the visual and tactile evaluation of soil. \nCertificates of Competency will be provided to participants that pass this exam. \nThe instructors for this course will be:\nWarren Brown\, P.E.\nPublic Health Engineer\nTri County Health Department \nRoy Laws\, P.E.\nJefferson County Public Health\nEnvironmental Health Services Division \n\nREGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS IS NOW CLOSED.
