Why CPOW - Why Now?
The performance of onsite wastewater treatment systems is a national issue of great concern. These systems service nearly 25% of the U.S. population. In Colorado alone, an estimated 600,000 systems are currently in use and tens of thousands more systems will be installed in the next decade.
Colorado’s onsite wastewater program is emerging to new levels. As a regulatory program delegated to the counties, huge variation exists across the state in terms of design regulations, licensing of installers, credentials and training of inspectors and allowances for use of new technology, just to name a few. CPOW is building professionalism amongst the many sectors of the industry.
Addressing long-term impacts that these systems may have on Colorado’s public health and environment and enhancing professionalism within the industry, CPOW is creating a new focus on issues affecting system performance, management programs, training, education, community outreach, regulation development and legislative change. With all that is happening in the onsite wastewater industry, CPOW is poised to assume the sorely needed role as the leader of Colorado’s onsite wastewater industry. CPOW is now the new voice of the wastewater professional in Colorado.
It’s time that you get involved! Let CPOW know how you feel about the issues and we’ll keep you well informed on changes in the onsite industry. Your input will make a difference.
