New O&M Provider Requirements

NAWT Operation & Maintenance Certification now required in several counties.

CPOW recently discovered that the following counties (Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Gunnison, Jefferson, & Summit) have included in their newly adopted OWTS regulations a requirement for those individuals that provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) service and contracts on higher level treatment units to hold the NAWT Operation & Maintenance 1 and 2 Certifications.

If you are currently providing O&M for those units that provide additional and/or higher level treatment (i.e. ATU’s, aerators, recirculating filters, disinfection, etc.) you will also need to obtain the NAWT Operation & Maintenance 1 & 2 Certifications or possibly have your contracts with customers be denied by these counties.

The NAWT Operations and Maintenance Training Courses were developed in coordination with the Consortium of Institutes for Decentralized Wastewater Treatment (CIDWT). Operation & Maintenance 1 concentrates on the business aspects of O&M and the maintenance requirements for conventional systems including trenches, beds, mounds and at-grade systems with some aerobic tank discussion. Operation & Maintenance 2 concentrates on aerobic tanks, drip irrigation, single pass and re-circulating media filters. Both courses are conducted over two days with an exam administered at the conclusion.

CPOW is working with these counties to help ensure that Service Providers receive the necessary training and certification needed as soon as possible and will be offering these courses in January and February of 2015.

NAWT Operation & Maintenance 1 will be offered on January 8-9 at the Environmental Training Center at the Red Rocks Community Center Lakewood Campus.

NAWT Operation & Maintenance 2 will be offered on February 4-5 at the Environmental Training Center at the Red Rocks Community Center Lakewood Campus.

Please note to attend the NAWT Operation & Maintenance 2 class you must attend and pass the NAWT Operation & Maintenance 1 class.
